PORTFOLIO PROJECT: SHOTS & ANGLES RESEARCH

PORTFOLIO PROJECT: SHOTS & ANGLES RESEARCH

Happy Sunday everyone!

Since our genre for the film opening is going to be drama/thriller, I have decided to do a little more research on the genre. In this post, I'm going to be specifically focusing on the frequently used shots & angles in thriller or drama movies. So here is the conclusion of my research:

High angle/Birds eye view:

The high angle or the birds eye view is used in thriller films a lot. The movie Avengers (2012) isn't a thriller movie, but they did use this shot. In this shot, the high angle is used to show that something or someone is looking down on them. This makes them look powerless and vulnerable.

Extreme close-up shot

The movie The Shining (1980) is a thriller movie. The shot above is recognized by many. It is a famous extreme close-up shot. It's used to show detail. It's also used to show whatever emotions are going on in the character's face at the moment.

The good thing about having both thriller and drama for the genre of this opening, is that they use very similar shots and angles. Both genres use these shots and angles to make the moment more dramatic or tense.

This research helped a lot! And will definitely help when recording our opening. More posts to come soon!
