   PRINT COMPONENT RESEARCH

Hey guys, happy Saturday! This weekend I wanted to make a post about filming, but I'll update you guys on that next week when we have some footage already uploaded. Instead, I thought this would be the perfect time to do some research for our print component we have to submit along with our documentary!

As explained on my other blog post(s), with the documentary package, we also have to submit a magazine spread related to our documentary and how it came to be. It's more like an article. Honestly, since Mari is our Canva expert, we all came to the agreement that she should take control on this, but we'll obviously be here to help. Without further ado, lets get into my research!

VOGUE MAGAZINE:

We all know I have an obsession with Vogue magazines, since every blog post I do, has a starting image on it that relates to Vogue. So, I wanted to have inspiration for our magazine spread from my favorite magazine of course! I happen to have a subscription for Vogue (surprise surprise...) so we can take inspiration from the layouts we have access to. Here is an example of a Vogue magazine article:

Article about the magazine I used: click here

Here are some things that pop out to me when looking at these spreads:

Font- The font is the classic bold one that vogue always uses, I've used it a couple times before for some other projects, but for our magazine I think a similar bold and all caps one would make the most sense to use.

Pictures- Vogue is also famous for using their well-known pictures. In these spreads, the first thing that caught my eye was the picture. Since it's evidently the first thing you see since it's the biggest component of the page, we should do a similar technique when it comes to our page.

VANITY FAIR:

Vanity Fair has an amazing archive website, that I also have a subscription to. On this website, they have all the magazine spreads available for everyone to see, so I plan on coming back to this page with Lucas and Mari to gain some inspiration for our own magazine article. click here to access the archives + the issue below

This spread is a little different from Vogue's. Instead of a big picture catching my attention, it's the huge letter "J." The letter is the first of the article and it serves as an introduction for the whole page. I think this is a very unique layout, and I would like to do something similar for our spread.

This page is a couple one's ahead in the same magazine. We can see that the same letter shown as huge at the beginning of the article. Instead of pictures uses though, theres a variety of words that are shown together. This is another technique we can use instead of using pictures.

OVERALL:

Overall, this research was very helpful for our print component we have to turn in along with our documentary. I believe we can make it very unique and creative!

That's all for now, see you guys next week!
