PORTFOLIO PROJECT: TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

PORTFOLIO PROJECT: TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday!

Today I am writing a post that I should've done a while ago. We're going to be talking about target audience today! This should have been one of my first posts, as it is very important to know the target audience of the opening we're going to be making and how it will affect it.

Since our opening has a drama/thriller genre, I will have to research both of these genres for target audience. They will be separated and then at the end I will give the overall summary of my research!

Thriller:

Since thriller is a little more advanced, and can be hard to watch for some viewers, the target audience is usually "older, adult audiences, often aging from 25 onwards" according to a Prezi.com. With the constant conflicts and plot twists, thrillers can be a little too much for a younger audience. According to another website, the target audience for horror and thriller movies is 15 to 24 year olds. Since my partner and I are both on the younger side, we're making something that will lead to something suspenseful, but not scare anyone (we hope.) We want the opening to end with something that will make the viewer want to see more.

Drama:

Drama movies are usually fit for people that want to feel emotion, for people who want to watch a good story that gets wrapped up in conflicts and plot twists. Drama movies are popular because they usually have to do with relatable topics. This is why people watch them so much. People who like drama also like suspenseful scenes, so this genre will go good with thriller as well. I couldn't get a specific age group for drama movies, but I got a good amount of information that includes what the target audience likes about drama movies.

Overall:

After researching all of the target audiences, I believe that drama and thriller are two good genres to use together. Drama movies use similar shots and angles and techniques that thriller movies use. I found out from my research that drama movies pair well with thriller.

Here are some examples of drama/thriller movies and/or series:

Outer Banks S1-S3 (2023)
- action, crime, drama, thriller

Black Swan (2010)
- drama, thriller
