DOCUMENTARY: PRODUCTION
Production time! So we split up the work in between Mari, Lucas, and I. Lucas was in charge of editing the documentary. Mari was in charge of planning all the shots and questions for the interviews. And I was in charge of filming.
When Thanksgiving break started, I began getting to work. Here was my timeline/log:
Monday:
Plan out shots with pdf Mari shared with me
Tuesday:
Pick out music for documentary
Wednesday:
Film b-roll for documentary
Thursday:
Film interviews
Friday:
Editing
Saturday:
Editing
Sunday:
Editing
I also helped edit a little, which helped me improve my editing skills. We used Adobe Premiere to edit the entire documentary, which was nice. There was a part where my Grandmother talked a little, and I had to translate it since she only speaks Spanish. The captions were hard to insert, so I had to do it on CapCut. But other than that, the editing was done on Premiere.
Finallyyyyyy after hours of editing, we finished our documentary! We submitted and were proud of what we had in front of us on the screen. However, after our class critiques, we realized that there were some things we could've done better. For example, in the beginning of the documentary I asked my Dad to spell out his name, and I didn't cut it out. This was a huge distraction and shouldn't have been included.
Overall, making this documentary was a good experience, and now I can say I've made one!
